Tony Duquette Style “Taffy” Side Table
Cast resin side table with an openwork base composed of intertwined, ribbon-like forms, finished in a gilt tone with darkened recesses to emphasize depth and texture. Circular glass top set within a molded rim. Manufacturer’s label present to the interior: “TPI Table & Industries Limited, Mississauga, Ontario.”
Tony Duquette (1914–1999) was an American artist and designer known for his work across interiors, furniture, costume, and set design. Active from the 1930s onward, he developed a distinctive style characterized by theatricality, opulence, and the inventive use of materials. Duquette created interiors for private clients and public spaces, as well as designs for film and stage, and remains associated with a maximalist approach that blends natural forms with elaborate decorative surfaces.
