Christopher Chodoff “Etruscan” Bronze and Glass Coffee Table
Coffee table designed by Christopher Chodoff, United States, circa 1980s. Rectangular form with a clear inset glass top set within a patinated solid bronze frame. The base is composed of textured, cast bronze elements with four legs joined by an X-form stretcher. Notably a brass snake detail adds a whimsical surrealistic element.
The surface treatment reflects a hand-worked, hammered appearance, characteristic of late 20th-century Brutalist design. The table’s construction and materiality reference earlier designs by Diego Giacometti, with whom Chodoff’s work is often associated.
Christopher Chodoff (American, 20th century) was a designer and antiques dealer active in the late 20th century. He is known for producing bronze furniture in the manner of Diego Giacometti, often incorporating sculptural and zoomorphic elements within functional forms.
