Isamu Noguchi Coffee Table for Herman Miller, Walnut, 2008

$2,250.00

Authentic Isamu Noguchi coffee table manufactured by Herman Miller in 2008. Originally designed in 1944, the Noguchi table is among the most recognizable examples of American modernist furniture design.

The table features a sculptural solid wood base in a warm walnut finish, composed of two interlocking, organically shaped elements that support a substantial triangular glass top with softly rounded edges. The design balances sculptural form with functional simplicity, creating a distinctive silhouette from every angle.

This example retains its original Herman Miller and Isamu Noguchi identification label, the designer’s signature etched into the edge of the glass, and its original Herman Miller Certificate of Authenticity, documenting a manufacture date of July 8, 2008.

The table presents with its original glass top and wood base, displaying the characteristic craftsmanship and proportions of Herman Miller’s authorized production.

Isamu Noguchi (1904–1988) was a Japanese American sculptor, designer, and landscape architect whose work explored the relationship between sculpture, architecture, and functional objects. Born in Los Angeles, Noguchi studied sculpture in New York and worked as an assistant to Constantin Brancusi in Paris. His multidisciplinary career encompassed furniture, lighting, ceramics, public sculpture, and landscape design. His 1944 coffee table for Herman Miller exemplifies his approach to furniture as functional sculpture and remains one of his most celebrated designs.

Herman Miller was established in 1905 in Zeeland, Michigan, and became one of the leading American manufacturers of modern furniture during the twentieth century. Under the direction of D.J. De Pree and design director George Nelson, the company collaborated with influential designers including Charles and Ray Eames, Isamu Noguchi, and Alexander Girard. Herman Miller played a significant role in bringing modernist furniture into American homes and workplaces, with many of its historic designs remaining in production today.
