Mario Marenco "Sapporo" Walnut Dining Table for Mobil Girgi
"Sapporo" dining table designed by Mario Marenco and manufactured by Mobil Grigi in Italy. Fully constructed of walnut. The legs can be removed for transport. Sourced in Italy.
Mario Marenco (1933–2019) was an Italian architect, designer, and television personality whose work combined formal rigor with a distinctly playful sensibility. Trained as an architect in Naples, Marenco became widely known in the 1960s and 1970s for furniture designs that explored softness, volume, and irony, often challenging orthodox modernist ideas of structure and function.
His most celebrated designs—particularly upholstered seating for companies such as Arflex—feature exaggerated proportions, tubular forms, and a sculptural approach to comfort that anticipated later postmodern attitudes. Alongside his design career, Marenco was a well-known cultural figure in Italy through his work in television and comedy, a dual practice that reinforced the wit and human warmth evident in his design legacy.
