Ceramic Vase by Claudia Frignani, Wunderkammer Studio
Ceramic Vase by Claudia Frignani for Wunderkammer Studio's limited Lefka collection.
Claudia Frignani is a Milan-based designer, ceramic artist, and creator known for her unique sculptural objects and limited-edition design pieces. She trained in graphic design, sculpture, and photography at the Art Institute of Monza before pivoting from illustration toward three-dimensional design. Her work reflects a lifelong curiosity about natural forms, textures, and materials, and is characterized by a balance between artistic expression and functional design. Over the course of her career, Frignani has explored a range of materials—including metals, concrete, wood, leather, and textiles—ultimately focusing on ceramics as a primary medium. In her ceramic practice, she often employs hand-building techniques such as colombino (coil building), resulting in one-of-a-kind vases and sculptural forms that combine meticulous craft with expressive surface detail.
In 1993, Claudia Frignani co-founded Wunderkammer Studio in Milan with her brothers (Nicola and Mattia), establishing a platform for designing and producing unique furniture, décor, and object pieces with an emphasis on materials, form, and technique. Initially encompassing a broad exploration of materials and textures, the studio’s output spans limited editions of furniture and decorative objects that reflect a sophisticated understanding of shape and surface. Wunderkammer’s work has been presented to international audiences and has involved collaborations with architects and interior designers, contributing to both public and private spaces.
Over time, Frignani’s personal artistic focus has increasingly concentrated on ceramics, transforming the studio’s practice toward handmade vessels and sculptural works that marry craft traditions with contemporary aesthetics. Her creative process underscores slow, tactile engagement with raw materials—shaping clay by hand and firing pieces through multi-stage kiln processes—resulting in objects that are both functional and expressive. Wunderkammer Studio remains associated with refined craftsmanship and the pursuit of beauty, rooted in attentive observation of the natural world and a commitment to artisanal production.
